Policy on Confidentiality and Privacy

The law protects the client-psychotherapist connection, and information cannot be disclosed without prior authorization.

Among the exceptions are:

  • Suspected child, dependent adult, or elder abuse, for which it is required by law to immediately notify the proper authorities.
  • If a client threatens significant bodily harm to another person or people, appropriate authorities will be notified, and the intended victim will be warned. 
  • If a client plans to harm himself or herself, every effort will be made to enlist their assistance in ensuring their safety. If they refuse to cooperate, additional legal actions will be taken to secure their safety without their permission.
